I would excel in almost any writing positon because my background in English Literature and prolific writing career have honed my verbal acuity, critical thinking skills and adaptability. My prowess in these areas give me the confidence and experience to thrive in high stress positions. My writing experiences have granted me a dedication to deadlines, innovative approaches to problems and analytical thinking for all facets of a project. I started writing for The Daily Californian in the summer of 2012 and stayed there until spring 2015. My time at the semi-daily newspaper taught me a multitude of skills that I use throughout my writing in other fields. I learned proper AP formatting and style rules as well as the basics of thorough journalism. The Daily Californian trained me to complete work within my deadlines and the importance of comprehensive research. The three years I spent at The Daily Californian gave me the ability to communicate effectively in any format. My other endeavors had far less oversight than my journalistic experience. In these positions at A Beast in a Jungle, HVNGRY Magazine, The Celebrity Cafe and Examiner, I discovered how to edit my own work at a high caliber. I developed a substantial talent to judge my editorial ideas through the eyes of both author and reader. This training culled excellent instincts and the ability to work efficiently with little oversight. Through my readiness to constantly improve my technique I also took a college course in Photoshop and have dabbled in HTML. However, I never lost the capacity to interact with a group or managerial figures from my time in newspaper journalism. Along with my journalistic acumen, I have had much experience with creative writing. In my college career, I took excellent workshops in both prose and poetry. My favorite form of creative writing is the personal essay. Based on my experience– journalistic and otherwise– I believe I would be a strong candidate for many types of writing positions.
