Hello! Blue Square Editing is excited to help you with your creative writing. I pride myself on professional and individualized service, and have experience with all aspects of the writing process, from fine-tuning first drafts to polishing a final book, and from creating author websites to finding an agent. I earned my BA in English Education from Butler University, a Masters in Creative Writing from Rutgers, and taught high school and collegiate English for several years. My own writing has been published in various literary magazines.
As your editor, my focus is on developing your writing talent, not just copy editing and fixing mechanics. I'm available to meet in person or work electronically. I return manuscripts in under a week and I charge only $1.70/page. I have worked with writers from all walks of life, writing in all different genres, and have a long list of satisfied customers.
A little more about my editing: I edit in two ways. First, I provide in-text edits. With this, I make any grammatical, spelling, mechanics corrections that are required -- ie. the typical copy editing. If there are repeated errors I'll teach you how to fix those. I also interact with the text and write comments on the manuscript (digitally, using Word's Comment feature). I ask questions, make comments, and let you know how I'm reading, on a sentence-by-sentence level, what you've written. I focus on both major issues and minor issues and offer suggestions on how to fix them and compliments on what you're doing well.
For the second part, I do a write-up (usually 2-3 pages) addressing overall issues, strengths and suggestions. In this write-up I talk about big-picture and whole-book ideas and how you can best handle them. After I've returned the manuscript, I'm also available to answer any questions to help you work through any of the revisions you make.
I am happy to answer questions, so please ask. I look forward to reading your writing and hope we will be working together soon.
