Southern Distinction is located in Athens, Georgia. We are looking for a Freelance Writer with strong writing or copy editing experience. Must be able to work in and out of the office. About Us: We strive to capture enthralling human interest interviews, features on businesses (new and old) that help grow our great community, politics, sports, and the unique personalities that live in and around Georgia. We're also a guide to the area's entertainment and dining choices, as well as a source for information on the area's events, arts, music, and culture. About You: What we need in our ideal candidate We are seeking someone with experience in writing and/or blogging. Preferably two to three years of combined writing and editing experience. The candidate will assist the Publisher in all needs of the Magazine. Freelance work, proofread and fact check articles, create a monthly editorial calendar, help with magazine layout, and write articles for the magazine. Candidates will be responsible for assisting in editing column writers and features, based on the editorial calendar and defining what the criteria will be for each issue. The position will require you to set the deadlines for each piece of the magazine and manage the process from start through production. Must be highly organized and have the flexibility to multi-task and be involved in several projects. Applicants should have great writing skills and needs to generate fresh/original ideas for each new issue, communicating effectively across all channels, including advertisers and the Publisher. Pay will be based on assignment and word count, unless discussed with the publisher. If interested please submit your resume as well as two to three writing samples.
