I’ve been writing professionally for over seven years now, focusing mostly on publications in the religion/spirituality field, but have lately been branching out into other writing markets. In my writing experience I’ve contributed blog articles, book reviews, reflection pieces, and advice columns catering to specific voices and audiences in each case. As a regular contributor for Living Lutheran magazine and Affinity Connections, I’m accustomed to quick turn-around, hard deadlines, and prompt correspondence with both editors and other writers to complete a feature. My writing style is both relational and professional, and I keep an eye on making the “main thing” of the piece the main thing. I love finding the hook to pull in the reader, and I enjoy incorporating story and wit into my writing, ensuring that both serve and don’t distract from the subject. These types of research pieces are exciting challenges for me, especially when the expected parameters of an article limit word count. Thoroughly researching a topic is something I take pride in, and I see my role in reporting and reviewing to be providing enough information to help the reader become interested and informed on topic quickly, without overburdening them with minutiae.
