As an intersectional feminist, pacificst and humanist writer from the American Midwest, my mission is to meet the people of our global community and give voice to those not being heard. I aim to constantly challenge myself with new places, people and culture so as to express the beauty of our diverse world while engaging dialogue and action toward intersectional social justice. I graduated from the University of Kansas in 2013 with a degree in Global and International Studies. While studying abroad in Leicester, England, I began a travel blog which I continue to this day. While the blog now focuses on social justice more often than travel, the ongoing piece itself is a reference to my character, and my commitment to writing. You can find my blog at [email protected] Over the years I have refined my blog/ article writing skills, and taken classes in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Google Analytics, Grant Writing and Social Media development. My writing style can be classified as conversational research. I like to learn about a subject well, and then convert it into a format that the general public will find engaging and easy to read. I have had a patchwork of different jobs, and with each experience I make a conscious effort to understand the community and issues I am surrounded by. Over the past year I worked as a freelance writer for different publications and nonprofits, one of the most prominent being Community Initiatives for Visiting Immigrants in Confinement (CIVIC) which is a nonprofit dedicated to ending immigrant detention centers. I continue to write for CIVIC, as well as volunteer for their immigrant detention center hotline. In addition to writing over the past year, I have continued to explore different communities, including getting to know a group of men at a local maximum security prison through a weekly book club. I bring the experience and ability to learn that you are looking for to your organization, as well as the education and passion to dig deep and access all available resources to produce a great story.
