Good evening, my name is Jaylen Perarson. I am a recent college graduatet. I have obtained my bachelor of Arts in English, with a concentration in writing, in May. I have worked as editor for Cabrini University’s literary magazine, Woodcrest, for the past three years. There, I edited and reviewed countless creative student written projects, including my own two published pieces. As editor, Woodcrest achieved two golden crown awards for publications created by my staff. I have also been a writer for Nerdy Poc since December of 2016. Nerdy Poc is a publication dedicated to examining nerd culture from the perspective of people of color. I have produced articles for the publication constantly, over this past year. My time at Nerdy Poc has given me knowledge in writing about a large array topics. I have written many television, video game, and film reviews that have been published by Nerdy Poc, on the medium. I also have produced many opinionated articles and research essays I worked as an editor for an upcoming author Bo Sanders, for a semester. I edited and proofread dozens chapters of his upcoming memoir. The time that I spent as his editor helped me expand on the skills that I had learned on the Woodcrest. There is one skill, in particular, that this experience gave me is how to edit someone else’s writing while maintaining their voice. My time as Bo’s editor helped me to improve on this area of my editorial comprehension. I worked as a writer for Writing Wrongs, a social justice magazine.I interviewed documented and undocumented immigrants. I then wrote their stories of life in America for the magazine. This internship allowed me to improve on my journalistic writing. It also gave me experience in writing in APA. I also now have experience and knowledge in interview subjects for articles. Writing Wrongs helped me improve myself as a writer and journalist.
