I'm an
Individual
I am a journalist, writer, and blogger with over five years of professional writing experience. I have worked on everything from newspapers to online magazines to political campaigns to clickbait to viral content. I have even freelanced my way through a backpacking adventure in Europe. I currently work as a humor writer for Diply...... Diply is a top-250 traffic website in the world and the world's second biggest entertainment website. My job there is not only to make people laugh but to write articles that stand the best chance of "going viral". Needless to say, I know the internet and what make it click (bad pun, I know) quite intimately. In the past, I was sports & health editor for the University of Guelph's student-run newspaper. There I managed a team of volunteer writers, I conducted interviews, sought out stories and produced 5 articles a week in the print edition of our newspaper. In 2014, I ran for mayor in the City of Guelph. I did this for two reasons: 1) I studied political science in university and couldn't stand the thought of never putting my degree to practical use 2) I wanted a challenge. I ended up placing 4th of 7 candidates, but more importantly, I learned the ins and outs of political campaigning, debating in front of thousands of people, conducting radio and television interviews, and, most importantly, how to sell myself and my ideas to the general public. Running for mayor forced me to get comfortable writing things like speeches and rebuttals to debate questions. It was my hardest experience to date, but my most worthwhile one, too. On the side, I write blogs for a variety of publication. I also have begun vlogging and Tweeting about my life as a writer. I hope to make my passion for writing into an online lifestyle that people can follow, so I recognized the need to branch out into other mediums. Now I'm learning how to present my words to a camera and in 140 characters or less. It's a challenge, but I am enjoying it. I guess I shouldn't write an entire piece about myself without mentioning that I am a budding cigar connoisseur. Lighting a cigar and pouring a nice glass of wine is the best way to get to know me. Hopefully this relationship makes it that far.
