Unpaid, volunteer, Ornithology Writer/Blogger The Borrego Springs Chamber and Visitors Bureau supports the efforts of over a dozen local non-profits whose mission is to present educational programs utilizing the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and surrounding area. The Borrego Valley Hawk watch has a fine record of tracking the migration of Swainsons Hawks. Borrego Springs, CA has been attracting birdwatchers for many years, yet no one has consolidated the videos, photos, class schedules and hiking trail info and presented it to the bird watching public in an organized fashion. We have a volunteer/internship position for an Ornithology Writer/Blogger to create the media the Chamber of Commerce wants to offer. Thursday AM Club Circle Walks (ABDNHA) 3. Weekly bird walks at ABSP Visitor Center (ABDSP) 4. Naturalist Club birding trips 5. ABDNHA Birding Trips 6. ABF Birding trips 7. Lectures on birds/birding at ABF 8. Lectures on Birds/Birding at ABDNHA 9. Borrego Birders (1st Monday each month) 10. Birding the Springs (Wednesdays/The Spring Resort) The Borrego Springs Chamber and Visitors Bureau supports the efforts of over a dozen local non-profits whose mission is to present educational programs utilizing the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and surrounding area. The Borrego Chamber has over 200,000 hits on its website annually from visitors planning to visit the village and the state park. Travelers are eager to learn about the desert and plan their bird watching activities before they arrive. ****The job: this position is un-paid. 10 hours a week for 6 months, and working remotely is possible* 1. Create, edit and promote a Birdwatching blog, using a mix of media we will train you to find and use: historical records, donated photos, donated videos, twitcher data from e-bird, and stories solicited from avid Borrego birdwatchers. We will help you attract and train a team of local bird enthusiasts to edit the blog along with you as the lead editor. 2. Repost locally scheduled bird watching activities to the Borrego Springs Chamber Facebook page 3. Create a Borrego Springs Chamber web "Page" for birding with links to your blog, and our existing local bird watching groups 4. Create an e-newsletter and collect e-mail addresses to directly connect with Borrego Springs birdwatchers on a quarterly basis 5. Make contact with the San Diego Audubon Society and determine how we might increase their member visits to Borrego Springs and Exhibit at the March Bird Festival http://....org Borrego Springs, CA, an unincorporated area of northeast San Diego County, has a long and colorful history. The village of Borrego Springs is uniquely surrounded and protected by the amazing 600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Here in San Diego county's only desert community, the nearest stoplight is fifty miles away. Borrego Springs is California's first Dark Sky Community. There are no big box or chain stores. The slower, uncomplicated pace, the scenic beauty and the human scale of Borrego combine to produce a rustic, authentic desert experience, a special place, in all seasons. It has been a favorite of filmmakers since the 1920's. Visitors and students come here for paleontology, geology, and archeology study. California State University at Irvine has a graduate research study center here. The Borrego Springs Chamber and Visitors Bureau (Chamber/CVB) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit membership organization that represents private enterprise and community members interested in the economic health and vitality of the village. They also produce "Borrego Days", an annual late October festival that attracts over 20,000 people to the area.
