As a graduate from the Liberal Arts School of the University of Texas at Austin I learned the importance of diction and the power it has to move people. Having the ability to undertake a range of classes allowed me to have a stronger grasp on writing in an AP format while also teaching me how to discern which words were necessary to my work. At The Panamerican Newspaper I wrote a range of articles, which entailed having to collaborate with fellow writers and interview a multitude of people in order to get all sides of a story. That experience taught me how to edit but also how to communicate a point across both verbally and in a written format. I later harnessed those same editing and writing skills at Morales and O’Connor when I was given the privilege of writing a lengthy affidavit in hopes of stopping the deportation of our client; this meant constant communication with said client and translating her declaration from Spanish to English. In cases like those being able to bring your point across in a clear and concise way is essential. After graduating I wanted to continue my experience within government in a writing intensive job so I joined a lobby firm as a legislative editor. Being able to sit in on House and Senate hearings allowed me to develop a sharper set of listening and multi-tasking skills given that I had to decipher what information was useful to include in my written notes. I left that job with a strong set of people skills and a better eye for editing. My need to create brought me to the PR department of Sushi Madre, a Japanese/Mexican restaurant. I focus on editing existing scripts for their commercials, both in Spanish and English, as well as writing original scripts. I also write captions for the advertisements that run on their Facebook and Instagram pages, which reach over 24,000 followers. Helping create marketing concepts for their restaurant has helped me understand how to write for a more diverse audience, as well as how to garner and keep the attention of a reader, or in this case a consumer. I would love to be considered for this lucrative position because I have focused my efforts on having an eye for words and editing and I’m hoping I can put those efforts to good use by writing for you. I am incredibly passionate about the task at hand I know I would work my hardest to be an indispensable asset.
