Writer in New York, New York

I am a published fiction writer with years of experience writing and editing materials, such as newsletters, speeches, magazine articles, executive summaries, press releases, web content, various marketing materials, short stories, teaching materials, headlines, etc. I have a knack for quickly establishing the appropriate voice for a piece and for maintaining that voice across all platforms. As a fiction writer, I am a storyteller, and I always look for a story within a piece to engage the audience; if the story isn't apparent, I create it. With a recent executive summary I was writing for a grant proposal for a college, I found their material dry and difficult to connect to. After researching the college's mission and the general direction of the program, both inside and outside academia, I was able to tie the program and the college together in such a natural and persuasive way, the funder responded to the request enthusiastically. What my writing did was to create a story of a program that was already growing organically from the mission and vision of the college. The program was no longer an entity that should find a home at the college, it became a program the college was already informally offering through their mission and vision; it became obvious through my summary that it was only natural that the program be funded and formalized. I tend to visualize my stories--a movie of my characters is often playing in my head--so I create work that has life. I want to move people with my writing, so I bring emotion and humanity to my work so as to elicit emotion from the reader/audience and remind them of their connection to the rest of the world. I am versatile in my work style in that I can work well collaboratively or independently. I am comfortable sharing ideas and turning those ideas into a cohesive whole or being assigned a project and working on my own. I am very attentive to deadlines and treat all my work with the same care and thoroughness I employ with my own stories. I am available for short- or long-term projects.
