Artist, craftsman, storyteller: My word game is ill. But none of that means anything/s**t without finding the emotional center of the user and their connection to the product: Clever, and even funny, isn’t nearly as effective as emotional. The writer has to understand the product, how people are using it, and – especially – why. It's not always for the reasons people think. To get to the truth takes art, psychology, and – this is important – archaeology. It takes speaking to the end user – often not possible – or to those who know them best.
