As a former English teacher with a life-long interest in tech, I began writing on a freelance basis for a handful of tech companies, creating their how-to guides and screencasts. I have since branched out into setting up and maintaining blogs for many diverse niche areas, including medical, financial, legal, as well as career and workplace psychology topics. I strongly recommend businesses also invest in a monthly newsletter, which must be anything but dull. Many businesses fill their newsletters with internal 'news' like promotions or industry accolades. My newsletters take a much different approach; readers should actually look forward to each month's issue, filled with customer-generated content like real-life stories and experiences w/your product, perhaps a monthly photo contest, photo caption contests - even a monthly crossword puzzle built on terms from your industry can be very informative - but more importantly, very engaging to your customer base. An engaged customer is one who'll likely stick with you and refer you to friends.
