For over twenty years I have worked as a journalist, writing mainly about gastronomy and wine for Brazilian magazines and newspapers. During this time, I travelled the world inspired by the singular aspects that make every corner of the Earth a special place to be discovered. Guided by this adventurous feeling I visited Kefa, in Southern Ethiopia, in search of the origins of coffee, Darjeeling, in India, to sip a cup of the “Champagne” of teas, Spain, to write the story of Idiazabal cheese, made from sheep milk by farmers in the Basque Country, and Avery Island, in Louisiana USA, where I learned the secrets and curiosities of Tabasco sauce. It was in Canada, though, that I had the adventure of a lifetime. That was April 1999, when Nunavut was officially created, and I had the chance and the honour to participate in the celebrations that took place that year in Iqaluit. I was covering the event for Brazilian media with a Brazilian photographer and we were the only South American journalists attending the Nunavut celebrations. It was the beginning of a lasting relationship with a country I now admire for many reasons: its nature, its people and the respectful way that Canadians treat each other, and especially their ability to embrace so many different cultures. That year, I also travelled to many other places within the country including Pond Inlet, Yellowknife, Whitehorse, Lake Louise, Banff, Jasper, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, and around British Columbia. I was able to share stories with Brazilian readers through articles that I wrote for several magazines and newspapers. Over the years, I have come back to Canada many times to visit friends. Since September I am living in Vancouver with my husband and two sons.
